The Chicago Mercantile Exchange boasted a record day of futures trading in August, reporting 3.7 million contracts – a boost of 27 % since the same period last year.

The total trading volume for the month topped 85 million contracts.

CME’s most impressive numbers came at the end of the month, on August 31, 2005 at 9.97 million contracts.

The CME total interest rate volume was 2.2 million contracts per day for the month of August, up 29 % for the same period last year. The average daily volume for CME foreign exchange products was 285,000 contracts, a 68% increase compared to last year’s August numbers

CME reported record increases on other platforms in June.

The CME Globex reached 6.8 million contracts in June, up from 5.1 million at the same time last year. Interest rate contracts totalled 7.5 million, compared to its prior record of 5.2 million contracts.
