CIBC Mellon – the 50-50 joint venture between Canadian Imperial Bank of Commerce and Mellon Financial Corporation – says John Riviere has been appointed to the position of senior vice president and chief financial officer, and will serve as a member of the company’s executive management committee.

“Mr. Riviere brings extensive financial management and financial reporting experience to CIBC Mellon,” says Thomas C. MacMillan, president and chief executive officer. “With more than 20 years of experience in the financial services industry, he is a strong addition to our company.”

Riviere will have overall responsibility for the company’s finance department, including financial reporting, planning, management and business analysis. He is a Chartered Accountant with a Bachelor of Commerce degree from McMaster University (magna cum laude). He is also a graduate of the Advanced Management Program at the University of Pennsylvania’s Wharton School of Business.

Prior to joining CIBC Mellon, Riviere was executive director and chief financial officer of FirstCaribbean International Bank Limited, one of the largest financial institutions in the Caribbean. He has also held roles of increasing responsibility at several major Canadian financial institutions, including CIBC, Bank of Nova Scotia and Bank of Montreal.
