Chancellor Disappointed As Deutsche And Citigroup Decide Not To Go All The Way

Deutsche Bank may have been snubbed by Citigroup – the buyer favoured by no less a matchmaker than the famed serial monogamist Chancellor Gerhard Schroder, according to press reports – but the bank is still in the market for either a UK or a Swiss bank, says the rumour mill. This will disappoint Herr Schroder, who apparently believed that selling Deutsche Bank to the Americans would persuade HVB, Commerzbank and the rest of them to merge furiously with each other. Which all goes to show that Schroder thinks like a swinger, no matter what the subject at hand.
