UK government-owned emerging markets fund of funds manager CDC Group has appointed Shonaid Jemmett-Page as COO.
Jemmett-Page previously worked for Unilever. She joined the company in 2001, starting off in their business unit in Asia and more recently fulfilling the role of senior vice president of finance and information. She previously spent 20 years at KPMG where she set up and developed their sustainability unit.
“Shonaid’s business experience in emerging markets combined with her deep financial, general management and socially responsible investment experience means she will add real value to CDC and be a great asset to us,” says Richard Laing, chief executive of the CDC Group.
Last month, CDC committed $40 million to two funds targeting SMEs in south-east and central Asia. The firm committed $30 million to the Kendall Court Mezzanine (Asia) Bristol Fund, which is targeting $150 million and will focus on mezzanine growth capital and buy-out capital opportunities in SME companies in south-east Asia. It also invested $10 million in the Centras Private Equity Fund, which is aiming for $75 million to invest in SMEs in central Asia, predominantly in the Republic of Kazakhstan.
CDC has net assets of 2.7 billion and typically invests in funds in south Asia and sub-Saharan Africa.
