The Chicago Board Options Exchange announced an all-time single-day record Thursday, beating the previous record for trading volume for options on the iShares Russell 2000 Index Fund (IWM) by more than 40,000 contracts.
Trade volume for options on the fund hit 760,803 contracts Thursday, which bests the previous record of 727,521 contracts set May 17, 2006.
The exchange has seen a series of positive months in IWM trading recently, with May’s 296,971 contracts more than doubling April’s trading volume of 133,973 and June already looking as though it will continue the momentum.
