Cardano has appointed Keith Guthrie to join its London-based team, from 1 February, as head of the Investment Management team in the UK, which includes responsibility for selecting investment managers for Cardano’s UK clients.
He will work closely with manager selection colleagues in Switzerland and the Netherlands.
“We are delighted to announce Keith’s appointment. He brings extensive experience in both hedge funds and traditional investments, which is a rare combination. We believe that this broad understanding of markets and the factors that influence markets is vital in today’s environment. In addition to having a great track record as an investor, Keith is also a proven team leader,” says Kerrin Rosenberg, CEO, Cardano UK.
Guthrie joins from GAM, where he was most recently the co-manager of over $5bn of fund of hedge fund portfolios. In his six years at GAM, his role involved investing in a wide range of hedge funds strategies including distressed debt, relative value and credit strategies.
In addition, he managed multi-asset class fund-of-fund portfolios combining traditional and alternative investments. Before joining GAM Guthrie was head of traditional manager selection and a member of the Investment Committee at a FirstRand subsidiary, where he built up and helped lead a new multi-manager service.
Guthrie’s appointment follows the recent hire of Sven Smeets, by Cardano’s sister company Altis, to its manager selection team. Smeets joined from ABP, one of the largest pension funds in Europe, where he had overall responsibility for selecting managers for a 16 billion portfolio.
