The chairman of Capita Group, the supports services firm who has won contracts from the British government, resigned Thursday after publicity to lend money to the Labour Party, Reuters reported.

Rod Aldridge, who founded Capita in 1984, said in a statement that there were suggestions that the loan resulted in the group being awarded government contracts. He continued to deny that to be true.

“Whilst anyone who is associated with the public procurement process would understand that this view has no credibility I do not want to the misconception to continue,” he said.

UK Prime Minister Tony Blair has come under fire recently after officials disclosed that it had received nearly GBP 14 million in loans from 12 businessmen, some of whom were nominated for seats in the House of Lords after lending the money, Reuters reported.
