BT has appointed Phil Mottram as managing director for Trading Systems, one of the three business units within the BT global financial services division. Mottram will be based in London and report to the Vice President of BT Global Financial Services, Laurie Bowen. He starts work on 1 December 2006.

As managing director of Trading Systems, Mottram will run a business operating trading systems for more than 60,000 traders in over 1,900 trading rooms across 51 countries.

Phil Mottram brings 15 years of experience in the telecommunications, IP management and financial services industries to his new role at BT. He has spent the past eight years working across a number of divisions within BT, most recently as Vice President, UK & Global Business Market Development. Prior to BT, Mottram worked for a number of organizations, including Sprint and AT&T

“The addition of Phil Mottram to the team reflects BT’s commitment to building a world class service provider devoted exclusively to the financial services industry,” says Bowen. “The financial markets demand more agility from their communications infrastructures and will turn to unified communications and applications to help them provide differentiated services to their clients. BT understands this demand and believes that Phil’s knowledge and experience will help play a key role in our global financial services strategy.”

Mottram adds that the voice trading markets are changing. “Market participants want flexible solutions that incorporate multiple technologies including fully converged VoIP, which can be deployed in a manner that fits with current business strategies. I look forward to working with the existing management team in the Trading Systems business. Their strong expertise coupled with my background in IP networking and financial services will create a dynamic environment that willenable us to gain valuable market share.”

Mottram takes over from Rod MacDonald, who has been managing director of Trading Systems since 1996. After 35 years in the industry, MacDonald has decided to retire from BT at the end of the year, but will work closely with Mottram to ensure a smooth transition.
