BNY Mellon has launched a new collateral management platform, Collateral Universe, which aims to help buy-side firms work with collateral in a changing regulatory environment.

The platform offers various solutions in areas such as segregation, optimization, aggregation, securities financing, liquidity management, consulting, derivatives lifecycle management and reporting. It also offers tools for monitoring a company’s collateral positions.

“For market participants, the current and future regulatory reforms pertaining to derivatives and capital are expected to contribute to collateral and liquidity shortfalls, as well as increased funding costs and operational complexity. These challenges have prompted the buy-side to explore new ideas, tools and partners,” says Kurt Woetzel, chief executive officer of BNY Mellon’s Global Collateral Services business.

In addition to releasing Collateral Universe, BNY Mellon has received Securities Settlement System (SSS) status from Belgium for its CSD, which formally recognizes the depositary as an appropriate system under EMIR.
