BNY Mellon Appoints Lackey As Asia-Pacific Chairman

Stephen Lackey will succeed Christopher Sturdy as chairman for the Asia-Pacific region for BNY Mellon.

BNY Mellon has appointed Stephen Lackey as the chairman for the Asia-Pacific region, where he will lead the development and implementation of the company’s business strategy for the region and chair the Asia-Pacific executive committee.

Based in Hong Kong, Lackey will report to James Palermo, Boston-based vice-chairman of BNY Mellon and chief executive of global client management.

As part of his new role, Lackey will be the primary representative with local regulatory authorities and oversee client management for the region.

Lackey succeeds Christopher Sturdy, who will now take on a senior role in the firm’s global client management group in New York.

Lackey joined BNY Mellon in 1981 and has been director of global corporate development and investor relations since 2009.

Meanwhile, Daniel Smith, chief administrative officer of Asia-Pacific at BNY Mellon, has been appointed to COO for the region. He will continue to be based in Hong Kong and report to Lackey.
