BNP Paribas, one of the largest international banking groups, has started its corporate, SME and retail operations in Moscow.

Philippe Delpal has been appointed global head of Retail Banking and Consumer Finance in Russia.

BNP Paribas has been operating in Russia for over thirty years and now offers a wide range of banking services to individuals, small and medium enterprises and corporate clients.

In February 2008, as a part of its global strategy to expand organically on fast-growing markets, BNP Paribas opened its first three banking branches in Moscow.

Over the next 3 years, BNP Paribas plans to establish ATM and branch network of 80 offices in Moscow and Russian regions.

Based on international expertise and know-how, BNP Paribas offers a complete product offer including mortgages, personal loans, auto loans, deposit accounts and banking cards for individuals, and various banking services, trade services and loan solutions for SME and corporate clients.

“After a successful start of our corporate business in middle 2007 now we have reached portfolio of $400 million. On the retail banking and SME part the preparation stage is now over and we are proud to deploy in the first three branches our commercial strategy based on our 3 T concept – transparency, trust and technology,” says Philippe Delpal, global head of Retail Banking and Consumer Finance, BNP Paribas.

“Increasing BNP Paribas presence in Russia is central to our strategy in emerging markets. We think this country has tremendous potential for banking services to accompany its rapid economic development. We see Russia as a fast-growing market where BNP Paribas is now writing its own history,” adds Guido van Hauwermeiren, head of Emerging markets of International Retail and Financial Services, BNP Paribas.

This step will generate significant growth of BNP Paribas and synergies opportunities in Russia with a vast platform of services: Corporate and Investment Banking, Consumer Finance under the brand name Cetelem, Life insurance company Cardif, Arval, operational leasing and corporate fleet management company, and Retail Banking.

In emerging markets, BNP Paribas’ priority is to bolster its presence, doubling in 3 years its revenues in these regions to reach 15% of the group’s total revenues. In the Mediterranean and in far Eastern Europe, BNP Paribas is deploying the group’s integrated model, drawing on these countries’ geographic and cultural proximity to Europe and taking advantage of the existing strong presence, in particular with energy and commodities finance teams.
