The BME, Spanish stock exchange, reported a trade volume for the first half of 2006 of EUR 531.84 billion, marking a 25% increase from the first half of 2005.

The exchange also saw a 23% jump for the month of June alone over the reported trade volume for the same month last year, with equity trades on the SIBE platform bringing in EUR 93.25 billion.

Trades on the exchange’s IBEX 35 Futures index increased 40% on the year, with 569,569 contracts, and Mini IBEX Futures grew by 106%, with 169,298 contracts

The BME’s positive month continued with trading on the Latibex market coming in at EUR 68 million, a 72% increase on last year and an 88% increase in the number of trades.
