Barclays Hires Two to Trade Latin American Debt

Barclays Capital has hired Michael McGowan and Ronaldo Lyrio as Directors, Latin America, Credit Trading. McGowan will be responsible for managing the Latin American credit repo book. He comes to Barclays Capital from the Chicago Mercantile Exchange where he was a Trader of Interest Rate Futures. Prior to that, he spent nine years at Chase Securities Inc. where he was Vice President in the International Fixed Income Division on the Chase Emerging Markets Proprietary Group.

Lyrio will be trading sovereigns in Latin America and concentrating on Brazil. He joins Barclays Capital from Royal Bank of Scotland (formerly NatWest) where he was senior trader for the Global Emerging Markets proprietary positioning group for three years. Prior to that, he held various positions in fixed income trading for Emerging Markets at Banque Paribas, UBS Securities and JP Morgan Securities.

McGowan and Lyrio will be based in New York and report to Diego Gradowczyk, Head of Latin America Credit Trading. Commenting on their appointment, Gradowczyk said, “Both bring to the firm extensive market expertise in Emerging Markets. We are delighted to have Michael and Ronaldo join the firm. These appointments will help to significantly grow our presence in the region. They are part of the firm’s ambitious plans to accelerate growth in this strategic market.”
