Barclays announces the appointment of Howell James to the role of Barclays Corporate Affairs director. Howell will lead all areas of Corporate Affairs working closely with Barclays top management and Board.
His portfolio will comprise media relations, public policy, internal communications and corporate social responsibility. Howell will report to Cathy Turner, Group Human Resources director. He will join in September.
Howell has extensive experience from positions in both the public and private sector. He joins Barclays from the Cabinet Office where he acted as Permanent Secretary, Government Communications. His roles before this included director and founding partner of Brown Lloyd James, a PR consultancy, political secretary to the Prime Minister, Sir John Major, director of Corporate Affairs at Cable & Wireless and director of Corporate Affairs at the BBC.
