Major financial institutions urged U.S. regulators over the weekend to consider reinstating a temporary moratorium on short selling in hopes of avoiding Lehman’s fate, according to The New York Times.
The Securities and Exchange Commission halted naked short selling of Fannie Mae, Freddie Mac and 19 other financial institutions in July.
