The Bank of New York Company has achieved the first place ranking in its category for the second year in a row in FORTUNE magazine’s annual ranking of the “Most Admired” companies in the US.

Each year, FORTUNE surveys thousands of executives, directors and analysts to compile the list. The Bank of New York was voted best overall in its category, with top scores across seven key attributes including innovation, product and service quality, and financial soundness. The complete results are available at http://www.fortune.com and will be published in the March 19 issue of the magazine.

“This year’s survey results reflect the work of our exceptional global staff who help clients move and manage their assets in more than 100 markets worldwide,” says Thomas A. Renyi, the chairman and chief executive officer of The Bank of New York. “We are gratified to have received the top ranking for the second year in a row and look forward to building on these results as we complete our merger with Mellon Financial Corporation later this year.”

In December 2006, the Bank and Mellon Financial Corporation entered into a definitive agreement to merge, creating the largest securities servicing and asset management firm globally. The transaction is expected to close in the third quarter of this year.
