The Bank of Ireland has denied rumors that it has been approached with takeover bids.
Richard Burrows, governor of the bank says shareholders that no bids on the table from potential purchasers.
“As of today, standing here in front of you, we have no approaches from any companies with respect to anything that could lead to a takeover of Bank of Ireland,” says Burrows.
However, Burrows refused to answer further questions from shareholders about potential takeovers in a bid to avoid speculation.
The Bank of Ireland has said that the current economic slowdown is having a negative impact on its earnings.
“The slowdown in the overall level of activity and volume growth is most pronounced in our retail businesses in Ireland,” it said in a statement.
