BAML poaches global tech and ops head from JPM

New global tech and ops head joins BAML from JP Morgan.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch (BAML) has raided JP Morgan for a new boss to oversee its Global Technology and Operations division across the EMEA region.

Andrew Butcher joins BAML as managing director (EMEA) for Global Technology and Operations from JP Morgan, where he was chief administrative officer for the Asia Pacific Region.

BAML’s global technology and operations division encompasses payments, risk and capital management, cyber security, data management and technology infrastructure. The division has 100,000 employees across 34 counties globally.

Cambridge graduate Butcher joins after more than four years with JP Morgan, based in the group’s Hong Kong office.

Prior to that he was head of operations and technology (Asia Pacific) at Citigroup for three years and worked in different roles in the region for a further five years before that.

The move is the latest in a string of senior banker moves in the technology sector this year.

Only last month Jefferies swooped for Steve West to become its new global head of software investment banking from Credit Suisse.  Four other technology specialists moved across at the same time.

Bank of America Merrill Lynch declined to offer any comment or further details on the appointment. Butcher could not be reached for comment.
