AXA Investment Managers (AXA IM) has appointed Lucio Sarno as Director of Currency Research to further expand the newly formed Currency Management team within their fixed income business.

Sarno joins AXA IM from University of Warwick, where he has been Professor of Finance since 2002, and Associate Dean of Research of Warwick Business School since 2005. Sarno also acts in several consultancy roles including the International Monetary Fund (IMF) and the Italian Ministry of Economy and Finance.

He will report to Andrew Dales, Head of Currency Management, and will join AXA IM in March 2007.

“Lucio is a leading academic in the field of currency markets and economics, and is an outstanding appointment,” says Dales. “Within the currency team, he will lead the ongoing research effort to enhance our currency model and investment process. His role will be to generate new ideas and to make sure that our existing insights are adapted to changing market circumstances. We are confident that Lucio’s knowledge and experience in currency markets gives him the ability to perform the task well.”

“Since its establishment in June and under the leadership of Andrew, the Currency Management team has made a number of appointments, and although further hires are on the cards, its core leadership team is now in place,” adds Paul Griffiths, the Global Head of Fixed Income Franchise at AXA IM.

AXA IM established its Currency Management team in June 2006, with the appointments of Andrew Dales and Jean-Philippe Gruvel from Barclays Global Investors.
