Asset Control, a leading provider of Centralized Data Management (CDM) solutions to the financial industry, says that it supports Sun’s award-winning Solaris 10 Operating System (OS) running on Sun’s Sun Fire(TM) x64 (x86, 64-bit) servers powered by AMD Opteron(TM) processors. The Solaris 10 OS offers improved security, stability and performance, all at a lower total cost of ownership, in which to run the Asset Control product suite for standardized reference data and market data management solutions across the enterprise.

“As a leading operating system, the Solaris 10 OS provides the reliability of an enterprise platform at commodity pricing,” says David Hirschfeld, Senior Vice President of Operations at Asset Control. “A number of financial institutions have expressed an interest in a move to cost-effective computing platforms. Our reason for extending to the x64 platform is to offer a lower total cost of ownership and the widest range of platform options available to support the entire life cycle of data management.”

“The combination of Asset Control’s product suite and the Solaris 10 OS is all about performance, value and choice,” says Anders Harryson, President, Sun Microsystems Central and North Europe. “This is particularly important for institutions looking at a dependable and extensible investment data management platform. A platform that leverages the increased performance of the Sun Fire x64 servers, in addition to compatibility with more than 650 x86/x64 platforms that run the Solaris 10 OS, including those from Dell, HP and IBM.”

This announcement cements the long-standing relationship that Asset Control and Sun have developed over the years, which has led to numerous customer implementations. An important foundation for the partnership is deeper engineering collaboration to optimize the use of the advanced Solaris 10 features with Asset Control, such as Dynamic Tracing (DTrace), Predictive Self-Healing and Solaris(TM) Containers. These features are designed to increase network security, enhance system observability, improve utilization and decrease overall server downtime.
