The American investor Samuel Heyman has purchased an 8.8 percent stake in the London Stock Exchange (LSE), a move likely to affect the Nasdaq bid.
It is estimated that he paid 12.90 per LSE share through derivative instruments, and that a higher offer will emerge to counter Nasdaq’s 2.7 billion takeover bid.
The acquisition means that the US investor now has a shareholding in the LSE second only to Nasdaq.
