American Capital Strategies, Ltd. has selected SunGards Protegent Personal Trading Assistant (PTA) to address certain of its compliance needs.

American Capital is the largest US publicly traded private equity fund and one of the largest publicly traded alternative asset managers. SunGards Protegent PTA is an automated application that helps streamline the compliance process for personal trading in a wide range of industries.

American Capital will use Protegent to better manage and automate various aspects of its employee facing compliance requirements. The implementation of Protegent PTA will help American Capitals employees disclose their investment holdings and brokerage accounts, certify the accuracy of this information and request preclearance for personal investment transactions as required under American Capitals Personal Investments Code.

Compliance officers expect to be better equipped to monitor personal trade activity by centralising electronic receipts and automating rule checking of executed transactions.

“Among the critical factors in our selection of SunGards Protegent is its ability to accept electronic data from outside brokerage firms, its rapid implementation, and its trusted, stable, ASP-based delivery method, which will alleviate the maintenance and cost burden on our information technology department,” says Samuel Flax, executive vice president and general counsel of American Capital.

“One of American Capital’s primary goals as a firm is to enhance its compliance program according to specific objectives. SunGard’s Protegent PTA will help American Capital to achieve this goal by providing functionality to help it meet its standard certifications and monitoring programs,” adds Raj Mahajan, president of SunGards trading business.
