The Alternative Investment Management Association (AIMA) has appointed new positions in two of its offices – a director of its Hong Kong branch and a research consultant in London.
Tim Kay was recently appointed as director of AIMA’s Hong Kong branch, which serves China, Taiwan, South Korea and surrounding countries with active hedge funds. He will be responsible for branch development and will work closely with the regulatory authorities. Previously Kay held senior positions at MSCI, Baring Asset Management and BNP Paribas, and he was co-founder of Peak Capital.
AIMA also appointed Alban Brindle as a research associate in London. Brindle, who is fluent in five languages, will build a research and analysis function for AIMA to help compile and distribute day to regulatory bodies and the media.
“Asia is widely expected to be a major growth region for hedge funds over the coming years,” says Kay. “It is therefore important that AIMA build up its resources and influence in the area. I’m delighted to join them at such an exciting time and look forward to meeting our existing members as well as potential new ones.”
“There has been exponential growth in hedge funds in recent years and there is generally no principal source of global information,” says Brindle. “I hope the work that AIMA and I will do, will bring some clarity to this and that we can provide members, regulators and the press with sound information. I’m looking forward to working with AIMA’s rapidly expanding team.”
