The Bank of New York (BNY) reported today that 2002 depositary receipt trading volume on the New York Stock Exchange (NYSE), the American Stock Exchange (AMEX) and The Nasdaq Stock Market (NASDAQ) was up 3 per cent on 2001, at 32 billion shares worth $544 billion.

Companies from Sweden, United Kingdom, Finland, the Netherlands, Taiwan and South Africa had depositary receipt programs with the greatest depositary receipt trading volume. Programs with the most active volume of depositary receipt trading activity were primarily from the telecommunications and technology sectors: Ericsson (Sweden), Nokia (Finland), and Taiwan Semiconductor Manufacturing (Taiwan).
