UMB has appointed John Weasler to a newly-created role focused on business development with governmental and insurance industry clients.

Weasler brings more than 15 years’ experience in the asset management industry, with client-facing roles in mutual fund, hedge fund and bank settings. Prior to joining UMB, he was a vice president with BMO Global Asset Management.

UMB’s custody offering grew out of the firm’s expertise administering mutual funds and other investment vehicles. In recent years, government and insurance industry services have contributed further growth – with governmental assets now accounting for over a quarter of the firm’s total assets under custody.

“John’s talents are a terrific match for our growing team,” said Amy Small, SVP, director of institutional custody at UMB Bank. “He brings extensive experience working with investment clients and, even more, a dedication to serving those clients in creative and innovative ways.

“We’ve seen remarkable progress during the past three years, and are now truly on a whole new trajectory. I’m excited to work with John and the team as we continue that growth.”

The news follows the firm’s appointment of three industry experts in February this year. All ex-State Street executives, Paul Troilo, Melissa Clingan and Tonya Cordray now serve across UMB’s fund services and institutional custody teams.
