Global Custodian announces New York Industry Leaders Award Winners for 2019

BNY Mellon, Citco, Morgan Stanley, SS&C and Wells Fargo were among the big winners picking up multiple honours at the 2019 Global Custodian Industry Leaders Awards at Chelsea Piers in New York last night.

During an evening where Global Custodian celebrated its 30^th anniversary just blocks away from where the first magazine was printed in 1989, prime brokers, fund administrators, custodians and technology innovators were celebrated at a special awards ceremony.

Outstanding individuals were also honoured with DTCC’s chief executive, Michael Bodson, handed the prestigious Lifetime Achievement award and Stephanie Miller, CEO of Intertrust crowned Industry Person of the Year in a live vote on the night.

Morgan Stanley picked up Prime Broker of the Year, while the Hedge Fund Administrator of the Year went to Citco. The Private Equity and Mutual Fund Administration equivalents were handed to SS&C GlobeOp and Ultimus Fund Solutions respectively.

Wells Fargo scooped the Trading & Execution award in the Prime Brokerage category and the bank’s head of prime services, Eamon McCooey, was inducted into the Global Custodian Hall of Fame with a Legend award.

BNY Mellon saw a double victory; firstly for Pershing in the coveted Client Service category in the Prime Brokerage awards and secondly for its custody arm, recognising its front-office data agreements with Bloomberg and BlackRock through the Securities Services Project of the Year honour.

Global Custodian of the Year went to Northern Trust in a fiercely contested award, while Intertrust Group were named the One to Watch in Fund Administration, pipping PEF Fund Services and Vistra to win.

BNP Paribas was named the winner for Operations in Prime Brokerage, while the bank’s securities services arm earned the Fund Accounting award in Hedge Fund Administration.

Cowen Prime Services and Cantor Fitzgerald each earned a Prime Brokerage honour, while SS&C dominated the Private Equity categories, alongside victories for Citco and Trident Trust.

Apex Group picked up awards for their performances in both the Hedge Fund and Mutual Fund Administration surveys, while Opus Fund Services also winning one for Middle Office in the Hedge Fund Administration Survey.

Elsewhere, Arcesium beat out ENSO Financial Analytics and Viteos to win Fund Services Technology Vendor of the Year.

Viteos did have success in the Innovation awards however, which were handed to industry pioneers. SmartStream joined Viteos in picking up crystals in this category, with the technology providers celebrated for AI Application and Machine Learning in Fund Operations, respectively, as Global Custodian honoured the technology trailblazers. Similarly, crypto fund technology provider Lukka Tech was recognised for its Innovation in Digitised Fund Services, while Broadridge Financial Solutions’ award for Proxy Voting was handed in light of its innovations for the Updated European Shareholder Rights Directive, which is set to extend beyond the EU.
