ABN AMRO Mellon Global Securities Services has appointed John van Verre as Chief Commercial Officer (CCO) of ABN AMRO Mellon. Formerly he was Chief Financial Officer (CFO) of the company, a position he held since the company’s formal launch in January 2003. Pim Nederpel, formerly Executive Director of Euronext Amsterdam, has been appointed CFO.
Van Verre began his career in financial services with ABN AMRO in 1988. During his tenure there he had various roles and responsibilities, ranging from Head of Operations at the time of the integration of ABN and AMRO, to Vice President International Cash Management, in charge of electronic banking products. Between June 2000 and December 2002 van Verre was Executive Director ABN AMRO Global Transaction Services.
During this time he was integral to the establishment of the joint venture structure of ABN AMRO Mellon, and was also responsible for the restructuring of the organisation’s Client Services. He holds a Degree in Law from Erasmus University in Rotterdam.
As CCO van Verre is responsible for the commercial growth of ABN AMRO Mellon, including future developments in existing markets and expansion into new territories. In addition, he oversees client satisfaction and retention, with Ren Wiegel and Nigel Taylorson, the heads of relationship management, reporting directly to him. Van Verre continues to be a member of the Managing Board, a role he assumed when he first joined the company as CFO.
“It’s been a privilege to have been a part of ABN AMRO Mellon from the outset and in such a key position,” says van Verre. “I look forward to contributing even further to ensure the continued commercial growth and success of the organisation.”
Pim Nederpel’s appointment as CFO of ABN AMRO Mellon encompasses responsibility for the Finance and Business Technology Services, and Legal, Risk & Compliance departments, and he represents these interests at the Managing Board.
Nederpel began his career in 1989 as Compliance Officer for the European Options Exchange, in charge of the risk management of market maker positions. In 1995 he became Head of Option Clearing, responsible for daily clearing operations. Nederpel became Managing Director of Clearing & Depositary for the institution in 2000, then re-named Amsterdam Exchanges (AEX). Following AEX’s merger with Euronext, he was appointed Deputy CEO of Clearnet, the exchange’s clearing house subsidiary in Paris.
Immediately prior to joining ABN AMRO Mellon, Nederpel was Executive Director of Euronext Amsterdam, where he focused on the implementation of the Euronext Centres of Expertise within the Derivatives business. Nederpel has a Degree in Business Administration and Economics and he is a Dutch-registered Financial Analyst.
“I wanted to be part of an organisation that had a reputation for great service, excellent lines of communication between staff and, just as important, ambitious plans for growth,” says Nederpel. “At the same time, I wanted to remain within the financial services sector to leverage my knowledge and strengths in this area, but within a new and dynamic environment. ABN AMRO Mellon has been the perfect opportunity for me and my four months here to date have only reaffirmed my view that my decision to join was the right one.”
Nadine Chakar, CEO of ABN AMRO Mellon, says Nederpelis already adding value. “His abilities have ensured a very smooth transition for John van Verre to his new role as CCO, following John’s excellent contribution as CFO to our company since 2003,” she says. “These are two vitally important positions and they are critical to the sustained growth and success of our organisation as a leading global custody provider.”
