Aviva Romania has appointed Shah Rouf as president and chief executive officer, subject to approval by the Insurance Supervision Commission.

Shah was head of Aviva international healthcare for three years until March 2006 and before this was director of marketing and distribution strategy for Aviva India. Shah is currently head of research and development for Aviva Europe and International.

“Romania is one of the fastest growing European insurance and investment markets with tremendous potential for future pensions business,” says Rouf. ” Aviva Romania has been performing very well and last week celebrated its sixth birthday with the news that it has moved from eighth to fifth place in life insurance market share during 2006. I look forward to growing the Romanian business and building on the strong foundation already laid by Carl Boehr and the Aviva Romania team.”

In line with the continuing development of Aviva businesses in Central and Eastern Europe Carl Boehr, currently chief executive of Aviva’s business in Romania, will become chief executive of Aviva Turkey.

Boehr will lead Aviva’s life, general insurance and pensions business in Turkey and will use his experience to develop further Aviva’s position in the Turkish market.

“We now have an established and growing presence in key Central and Eastern European countries and we are looking forward to developing these further in the years to come,” adds Pierre-Olivier Bouee, the director of Central and Eastern Europe at Aviva. “Significant opportunities exist and these changes will help us to strengthen our capabilities further in these important long-term growth markets.”
