BearingPoint, Inc. says that they have implemented a consolidated utility billing system for the City of San Jose, California, the country’s 10th largest city.

BearingPoint managed the implementation and integration of new Customer Information and Customer Relationship Management Systems to consolidate the City’s aging utilities billing systems, which were spread over multiple operations and call centers. The new solution, which went live this summer, provides greater efficiency and enhanced customer service, generating a newly formatted utility bill for over 225,000 city utility accounts and approximately 1.8 million bills per year.

In early 2005, BearingPoint won the contract to consolidate billing and operations for many of the City’s critical business areas utilising PeopleSoft Enterprise Portal, PeopleSoft Enterprise Revenue Management and PeopleSoft Customer Relationship Management Applications. BearingPoint’s enhanced billing system affects the City’s account maintenance, accounting services, integrated waste management, storm water, waste water and municipal water systems.

“BearingPoint’s track record for implementing PeopleSoft solutions across multiple locations and platforms, as well as our expertise in municipal utilities projects, were integral in securing and delivering this important engagement with the City of San Jose,” says Peter Sarsany, a Managing Director in BearingPoint’s Utilities Practice. “This project demonstrates our unique ability to provide integration of performance-enhancing solutions that streamline operations and give customers multiple ways to interact with the Utility.”

“The new state-of-the-art billing system implemented by BearingPoint replaces legacy systems that had previously operated through separate databases for customers of Recycle Plus, the San Jose Municipal Water System, and Storm and Sanitary Sewer Systems,” adds Scott Johnson, the Director of Finance for the City of San Jose. “By replacing these three outdated, inefficient, and unsupported billing systems, we now have one comprehensive database, eliminating much duplication which enables the City to save its customers money and offers new tools for more efficient revenue management and a ‘one stop’ customer service model.”
