Northern Trust has expanded its asset servicing sales and relationship management teams, which focus on institutional investors, across Europe, Middle East and Africa (EMEA).

Damian Powell has been appointed as head of EMEA institutional sales, a new position, created to manage new business opportunities. Powell is responsible for a team of sales managers targeting institutional investors across this region.

Powell joins Northern Trust from SUNGARD, where he was general manager, UK for the advanced private banking system business, and director of wealth management sales. Prior to this, he worked at Beauchamp Financial and Thomson Financial in a variety of roles. He has nearly 20 years experience in sales and sales management within the global financial services industry.

Rhonda Zoef joins the team as UK pension fund sales manager, reporting to Powell. She joins Ben Williams-Thomas in UK pension funds sales to focus on this key segment.

Zoef joins Northern Trust from Citigroup where she was Northern region sales manager in the Diners Club Corporate Card division in Sydney. Prior to this, she worked for National Australia Bank in a national corporate sales role within the MLC Corporate Solutions division. Zoef has more than a decade’s experience in business development and sales within the financial services sector.

Powell and Zoef’s appointments follow those of Cristina Quazzo and Anita Weiss who joined Northern Trust’s asset servicing client service team earlier in 2007. Both were appointed as senior relationship managers, focusing on UK pension funds.

Quazzo has proven expertise in supporting clients appropriately as they continue to follow more complex investment strategies. She joined Northern Trust from HSBC Private Banking, where she was head of the US desk for private clients, servicing the requirements of US high-net worth clients in London. During her 10 year’s international experience in the banking industry, she has also worked as a private banker for Merrill Lynch Private Bank in Rome and London.

Weiss recently transferred into the client service team from Northern Trust’s sub custodian network, where she was a network manager. She joined Northern Trust in 2004 and has also held various positions at other global asset servicing organisations, including Citibank and JPMorgan Chase and has previous experience servicing UK pension fund clients.

“Northern Trust’s heritage is built on serving the needs of institutional investors and this remains one of our core competencies. We recognise that institutional investors need sophisticated service solutions to meet their ever expanding requirements as well as enhanced governance and risk management.

“All four appointments reflect Northern Trust’s continued commitment to this market segment. Utilising their proven expertise in supporting clients appropriately, Northern Trust is able to help investors achieve excellence in asset administration in a constantly changing and increasingly complex environment,” says Anne-Lise Winge, head of asset servicing sales for EMEA and Asia Pacific, Northern Trust.
