Two weeks after the collapse of Iceland’s three largest deposit banks, the government has created New Kaupthing Bank to take over the domestic assets and operations of the former Kaupthing Bank.

The Financial Supervisory Authority seized Kaupthing in early October, and has now transferred much of the company’s operations to the new firm, which is entirely owned by the Icelandic government.

The newly created entity will not have control over international operations.
