Digiterre, in association with Bear Stearns, has announced the first entries for 2008 Digiterre Hedge Fund Regatta, featuring racing yachts crewed by teams from across the UK hedge fund industry.
To date, ten funds have registered and the event is expected to be double the size of last year’s event, accommodating up to 20 boats.
Returning from last year’s event, GLG has entered two boats into the competition, with Bear Stearns also entering two boats to compete for the Emergent Cup. Many other previous competitors, including 2006 winners’ Emergent Asset Management, have also signed on for this year’s regatta held on 2-4 July.
Newcomers include entries from several funds including RP Capital and New Finance Capital.
The organisations will be competing in 40′ yachts in a series of races around the Solent, with over 150 sailors expected to attend the event, to be held at the Royal Southampton Yacht Club.
“We are delighted with the new entries and the opportunity to scale the event significantly. The regatta is a unique event for those working in the hedge fund and alternative investment communities, fostering healthy competition, a chance to socialise with those in the industry, and a great environment for networking. Whether you are a novice or seasoned sailor, this is going to be a fun event,” says Ian Murrin, CEO, Digiterre.
Some companies are bringing their own boats and others are chartering a boat, complete with professional skipper, arranged by the organisers. The racing will be followed by a gala reception and dinner at Southampton’s Dockgate 4 restaurant.
