Swiss bank UBS recruites John-Paul Crutchley, a top-rated banks analyst from Merrill Lynch, to co-head its European banks research team, The Wealth Bulletin reports.
Crutchley, who will join in early October, will be the UK banks analyst and will work alongside co-head Alastair Ryan, who also covers UK banks, on strategy and on mentoring the team. He replaces Gert van Rooyen, who has transferred to UBS Global Asset Management, and will report to Nick Pink, head of European equity research.
Crutchley was a director in Merrill Lynchs banks research team, which was named as the leading European equity sector team in the Thomson Reuters Extel survey this year. The 2008 survey represents the weighted views of more than 7,500 investors from 63 countries. He joined Merrill Lynch eight years ago and has covered UK, and more recently Spanish banks. Before that he spent eight years at Barclays in various positions, having joined the UK bank as a graduate.
UBS has also hired Omar Fall, a banks analyst from ABN Amro, to cover French and Benelux banks, according to the memo. Fall joined ABN Amro as a graduate four years ago and has been covering Benelux, French and Swiss banks for the past two years. He will join UBS next month as a director and will report to co-heads of the European banks equity research team, Crutchley and Ryan.
“Our banks team rates highly with our largest clients,” says Ryan and Pink in the memo. “We expect our new joiners to allow us to continue to build on this strong position.”
UBSs European banks team has 12 members of staff and covers the major western and emerging European markets.
