A new report from Aite Group, LLC provides an overview of the biller direct technology market in the United States. The report categorizes vendors positioned in the biller direct space, reviews the trends shaping the biller direct technology market, and profiles 19 vendors. The biller direct technology market continues to grow rapidly in the United States. On average, vendors grew their number of customers 16% CAGR between 2005 and 2007.

In Q1 2008, Aite Group surveyed more than 40 technology vendors and billers that process more than 100,000 bills a month to assess the state of the biller direct technology landscape in the United States. The biller direct channel is still a relatively emerging channel for consumers, but one that is experiencing a period of tremendous growth. Only about 11% of consumer bill payments were made through that channel in the United States in 2007, but Aite Group forecasts that about 17% of consumer bill payments will be made through the biller direct channel by 2010.

“The biller direct market continues to grow at a healthy rate in the United States, but remains highly fragmented,” says Gwenn Bzard, research director with Aite Group and co-author of this report. “In the coming years, however, mergers and acquisitions should slow, driven by several factors, including the lack of appetite among billers for consolidating their various biller direct vendors, and the simple fact that a number of biller direct solutions are already tucked into very large companies.”
