Northern Trust has continued its expansion in Australia with a number of senior hires in its Sydney and Melbourne offices.

Tania Tuxford and David McWilliams have been appointed as business development managers in Sydney and Melbourne respectively.

In their new roles, Tuxford and McWilliams will be responsible for driving sales across the custodian’s institutional business servicing asset owners and managers in the Australasia region. Both will report to Angelo Calvitto, head of sales and corporate and institutional services in Asia-Pacific.

Prior to his new role, Tuxford was most recently a senior relationship manager with ANZ Wealth having previously held positions at Citi and RBC Investor Services.

McWilliams joins from JP Morgan Investor Services where he was a senior relationship and sales manager. He has previously worked at Bank of New York in London and State Street.

Simon McDonough has also been hired as a senior equity programme trader in Sydney.

Formerly of ITG in Sydney, McDonough will be responsible for expanding Northern Trust’s trading desk capabilities in Sydney reporting to Robert Arnott, manager for Northern Trust’s institutional brokerage business in Asia.

McDonough has previously spent time at Deutsche Asset Management and JP Morgan.

The hires follow Northern Trust opening its Sydney office in May 2016 and the appointment of Sally Surgeon as its head earlier this month.

“We see an increasing demand from institutional clients for products, services and technology solutions that help them navigate the ever-changing complexities associated with various regulations, while optimising investment performance and managing risk,” said Madeline Senior, head of Northern Trust in Australasia.

“All three of these hires will ensure we remain well placed to collaborate with current and prospective clients across the Australasia region.”
