HSBC Securities Services has announced a new head of cross-border sales for the EMEA region.

Paul Heffernan joins from Northern Trust where he had worked as a senior vice president in the EMEA Asset Servicing Sales division between March 2014 and June 2016.  During that time he was also head of exchange traded funds asset servicing sales.

In the new role, Heffernan will have responsibility for business development and offering guidance to international fund managers in establishing offshore and alternative investment structures.

He joined Northern Trust in June 2011 in the sales and business development team, before being promoted in 2014. Prior to this he worked as head of UK and European Business Development in Bank of Ireland Securities Services for five and a half years.

Prior to taking the head of UK and European role at Bank of Ireland SS, he worked in exchange traded fund client relationship management.

He is an economics graduate from the University of Limerick and holds an MBA from University College Dublin.

Tony McDonnell, managing director and head of HSBC Securities Services in Ireland, said recruiting Heffernan was a huge boost to the team.

He said: “He has significant expertise in both UCITS and non-UCITS fund products and is recognised as a pioneer in the ETF asset servicing industry across EMEA.

“Paul will add depth to our sales offering across a comprehensive product range and his strong knowledge of cross-border activities will support our full service, cross-product and multi-jurisdiction solutions.”

Heffernan did not respond to a request for comment.
