Five new GC legends inducted into hall of fame

The latest group of industry veterans have been inducted as GC legends for their distinguished careers in securities services.

Global Custodian is pleased to induct five new GC legends to the GC hall of fame following its annual awards evening.

Cian Burke of HSBC, Ronald Akkermans of UBS, Alan Cameron of BNP Paribas Securities Services, Societe Generale’s Andy Duffin and SWIFT’s Fabian Vandenreydt make up this year’s list of entrants.

Cian Burke is currently head of HSBC Securities Services having initially joined the bank in 1994. His career to-date has seen his hold roles including head of prime services and COO of global markets. He rose to the rank of HSS head in April 2010.

Industry veteran Ronald Akkermans has been at UBS for some four decades and currently serves as executive director and head of custody, FI, sales and business development at UBS. 

Speaking to GC in Spring 2015, Akkermans explained the constant theme of change in the industry.

“Sometimes I’m astonished at how much has actually remained the same,” Akkermans says.

“Nevertheless, when we look at the value-added services, such as reporting, we are in an entirely different world.”

BNP Paribas Securities Services’ Alan Cameron started his career with a 20-year spell at Citigroup, before joining BNP Paribas in 2008 as global head of product in the clearing, custody and settlement division.

His other roles with BNP have also included head of client segment and head of relationship management before being appointed global solutions sponsor for clearing and custody services in July 2016.

Cameron was nominated for GC’s Person of the Year award in 2017, for his work on a task force which launched an industry standard ‘free-to-use’ Due Diligence Questionnaire along with his efforts around T2S.

Societe Generale Securities Services’ head of sales and relationship management for the UK and Ireland Andy Duffin has been in his current role since December 2007.

Duffin’s career has included sales and relationship manager roles at Clearstream Banking as well as head of network management for Europe at Deutsche Bank.

SWIFT’s global head of securities markets at innotribe and the SWIFT institute Fabian Vandenreydt started his career in the early 90s with roles at Assurnet, JP Morgan and Capco.

Vandenreydt initially joined SWIFT in 2004 as head of portfolio planning and has also taken on roles including head of treasury services and head of product management before taking up his current role in October 2015.
